It's just a bad default.
I snagged a brand new computer from System76 and was initially disappointed with the desktop snappiness. Then I remembered that this is a thing, I just don't reinstall often enough to make it into my muscle memory.
Grab this extension, it's called Impatience.
In the tweak tool set the slider down to something lower, I set mine between .3 and .4. For some reason the slider doesn't move in sane increments with the keyboard so I just try to get it in between there.
Setting it too low is too weird, you want some animation, you just don't want the animation being so slow that it makes the entire computer feel slow. Tweak to your preference!
